How a Closed School Became a Fermentation Landmark
The former Gangnam Elementary School site became a symbol of cultural regeneration through fermentation.
In the quiet mountains of Yangpyeong, a closed school once stood unused after children’s voices disappeared. Miran Fermentation School restored the site by adding the time of traditional fermentation, the landscape of jars, and the vitality of local produce.
Founder Miran Lee placed hundreds of jars on the school grounds to share the power of fermentation with the community. Those jars are not only containers; they symbolize patience, healing, and community.
